Where was it found?
Neodymium was originally found in a mixture of praseodymium and itself called didymium by Carl Mosander in Stockholm, Sweden. It was later isolated from this mixture by Carl F. Auer von Welsbach in Vienna, Austria. Welsbach was the first person to isolate neodymium as an element from its mixture with praseodymium. He did so by means of "fractional crystallization of the double ammonium nitrate tetrahydrates from nitric acid, while following the separation by spectroscopic analysis," (“Wikipedia: Neodymium”, par 15) However, Hendrik Anthony “Hans” Kramer was the first person to isolate the pure elemental neodymium metal in 1925.
