Just a Few Common Compounds
Neodymium is a very reactive element that must be kept in an airless environment. When exposed to air, it forms Nd₂O₃ or Neodymium(III)oxide. Neodymium also forms a compound to form NdS (Neodymium (II) Sulfide), Nd₂(SO₄)₃ (Neodymium (III) Sulfate), NdN (Neodymium (III) Nitride), as well as many others (shown in table below). These different compounds can be used in the various processes and tasks that require Neodymium. For example, Neodymium (III) Chloride, Neodymium(III) Sulfate, and Neodymium (III) Nitrate can all be used to dye glass and each produces its own color under different light sources (shown below).
