Neodymium in Lasers
Many lanthanides are typically used in lasers and lanthanide lasers are fairly easy to find. Neodymium specifically has been used in many types of lasers. Some of these include Neodymium doped lasers that generate high-powered infrared laser beams that are converted into green laser light in commercial laser pointers. Another type of laser that Neodymium is used in is the Nd:YAG Laser that is used as a gain media for infrared wavelengths. “These are usually frequency tripled to the third harmonic at 351 nm in laser fusion devices,” (“Wikipedia: Neodymium”, par 24).
